English- Telugu Mobile Dictionary (free and open source)

English- Telugu Mobile Dictionary

DictionaryforMIDs -English to Telugu dictionary

DictionaryforMIDs version: 3.5.7
Dictionary edition: 1 (13Nov10)
Entries: 29,767

1. Dictionary

This dictionary was created by me at Sir CRR College of Engineering in the city of Eluru, Andhra Pradesh state, India.

The dictionary is released under the GPL license.

It Contains Meanings for 29,767 English words / phrases!. This is the first version of the dictionary(v 1.0) released in the year 2010. Of course, it is the first mobile English-to-Telugu dictionary for java phones. It was simply titled "English-Telugu Dictionary". The present version of dictionary is based on English-Telugu Dictionary (Reprint of 1853 Edition) by CHARLES PHILIP BROWN which is now open source dict. data base available on the internet.

This dictionary was originally saved in the Indian ISCII encoding format. It was converted to UTF-8 using Microsoft Word 2003. However, on a few occasions the original authors of the dictionary inputted the ISCII encoding incorrectly. These words can't be converted to Unicode correctly. Or, if only part of the encoding of a word was incorrect, then the word will be displayed with a "# #" to show where the encoding was incorrect.

2.Requirements

Telugu fonts must be installed in your phone inorder to get proper view of telugu characters. I'm going release bitmap fonts (an alternative solution) for those who do not have Telugu fonts on your phone. So please check this blog for updates.

3.Format used

ABBREVIATIONS - a. Adjective; n. Noun; pron. Pronoun; v. Verb; part. or p" Partciple; adv. Adverb; prep. Preposition; conj. Conjunction; interj. Interjection.

Note - The mark "*" denotes that the head-word is repeated. Thus under Abide, in the sentence "I shall * by your decision:" that is, I shall abide by your decision:

4. Request for Help

This release of the dictionary does not contain a Telugu IME (Input Method Editor). An IME allows you to type in Telugu. Work is underway to add custom IMEs to DictionaryforMIDs. So for this release, unless you add a 3rd party Telugu IME program, you will only be able to search from English to Telugu. You will not be able to search from Telugu to English.

We could use some help with this IME. If you have a phone that can input Telugu, or you have a program that adds Telugu support to your phone, then we'd be grateful if you could give us the key mappings for the Telugu letters.

Since the dictionary is old, it may not contain all the new words. We need your support, please provide any available resourse files for updating the database of the dictionary Please send the mapping information, comments to

dinesh6777@gmail.కం

please write your comments!!!!!!

Thank you
